Music for November 9
Dr. Peter Ragonesi
We are pleased to feature violinist Dr. Peter Ragonesi this Sunday to share with us works by J.S. Bach, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and William Babell. The choir’s anthem will be Handel’s “Deck thyself, my soul, with gladness,” which was adapted from a movement in his Brockes Passion. This arrangement pairs Handel’s music with Catherine Winkworth’s 1858 English translation of Johann Crüger’s 1649 chorale “Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele.” The familiar text begins, “Deck thyself, my soul, with gladness, leave the gloomy haunts of sadness; come into the daylight's splendour, there with joy thy praises render.”
