Music for April 12
On this Second Sunday of Easter, our music includes the Arabesque in C Major, Op. 18 (1839) for piano by German composer, pianist, and music critic Robert Schumann. The swirling character of the composition resembles the intertwined flowing lines seen in Arabic or Moorish decoration. Our hymns will compliment our Gospel reading from John which tells the story of Doubting Thomas. Both “O sons and daughters, let us sing” (Hymn 206) and “We walk by faith, and not by sight” (Hymn 209) encourage the movement from doubt to faith with prayerful words such as these: “Help then, O Lord, our unbelief; And may our faith abound, To call on you when you are near, And seek where you are found.”
