Music for January 18

For the Feast of the Confession of St. Peter, the choir will offer “Tu es Petrus” by Gabriel Fauré, with baritone soloist Eric Powell. The text, drawn from Matthew 16, recalls Jesus’ words to Peter: “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church.” Fauré (1845–1924) spent much of his career as a church musician, serving for decades as organist and choirmaster at La Madeleine in Paris.
