Music for May 10

On the Sixth Sunday of Easter and Mother’s Day, we welcome violinist Charley Shafer, who will perform “Mother and Child” by William Grant Still from his Suite for Violin and Piano. The piece was inspired by a drawing of the same name by Sargent Johnson, an important artist of the Harlem Renaissance. The choir will sing Hal Hopson’s arrangement of “The Gift of Love,” which pairs a paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 13 with the traditional English melody O Waly Waly.
